A list of “you are old school if…” remembrances is being circulated on the Internet, all San Angelo related. (This list doesn’t appear to have an Internet ULR address-it is just being E-Mailed person to person.) This list was apparently began by those whose birthdate came decades after our Graduation, as many of the items listed I consider fairly recent history. Nevertheless, the list is sure to bring some remembrances to you, too. It is my goal to expand this list to include many of our remembrances, as well, and then publish them to our Website (SAHS1954.Org) over time. Please send me YOUR remembrances to include,also. There seems to be several similar versions of this list floating around the Internet, but the list posted below is typical, and will get us started:

Let’s see if you’re old school and from San Angelo…
1. You are old school if you have seen a movie at the mall.
2. You are even more old school if you ever ate at pizza hut in the mall.
3. You are old school if you remember how much Fiesta Del Concho kicked ass.
4. You are old school if you remember watching hot air balloons in the park.
5. You are old school if you can remember when there was nothing past the Autoplex on Sherwood Way.
6. You are old school if you remember drinking an icee at Kmart
7. You are old school if you remember M-System.
8. You are old school if you remember the Putt Putt on the river being nice.
9. You are old school if you remember just going to the airport to pick people up, and not to go eat.
10. You are old school if you remember Foster Park being somewhat clean and playing under the mini “waterfall”.
11. You are old school if you know what a ROJO is (with or with out Canadian bacon and cheese).
12. On that note, you are old school if you remember Shakeys being the greatest place in the world for a little kid. (Even more so if you remember Shakeys before they remodeled the game room).
13. You are old, old school if your only reason to go downtown was for the super slide at Neffs amusement park.
14. You are old school if before you left the mall you stopped at El Chicos just for a sopapia.
15. Youre old school if you remember when there was absolutely nothing at the Houston Harte frontage roads and where the loop cut off.
16. Youre old school if you remember San Angelo before Wal-mart, Lowes, Chick-fil-a, Wendy’s, and Dairy Queen.
17. You’re old school of you remember Lake Nasworthy before it was dredged. Back then, it REALLY was Lake Nastywater.
18. You’re old school if you remember flying kites where colt stadium is now.
19. You’re old school if you remember the drive-in movie theater and where it was. You are even more old school if you ever saw a movie there.

21. You be old school if you went to eat at pizza hut for book it night to get your own personal pan pizza.

28. You’re old school if you remember when the ASU high rises weren’t co-ed and the 3rd story of the library didn’t exist.

30. You’re old school if you remember going to the Village Theatre to watch “Faces of Death” or “Rocky Horror Picture Show”.

35. You know you’re old school San Angelo if you remember when the Glenn vs. Lee 9th grade football game was a huge ugly rivalry that wasnt just a game, but a city wide event.

37. You’re old school if you remember when Showtime was the only place in town to rent movies besides the grocery store.
38. You’re old school if you remember going to the Food Emporium to look at the live lobsters in the tank.
39. You’re really old school if you remember going to teen night at the Finn or Sante Fe.
40. You are old school if you remember that people actually used to cruise the drag (aka Sherwood Way)

46. You are old school if you remember going to the rodeo to actually watch the rodeo & ride the carnival rides instead of hanging out at the Beer Barn

49. You are old school if you remember eating at Little Ceasars inside of Kmart.
50. You are old school if you played at playfit. Which is now a carpet store.
51. You’re old school San Angelo if you remember eating from the Dairy Queen on South Chadbourne.
52. your old school if you remember drinking milk from the carton in elementary.
53. your old school if you remember Pinnochio’s pizza in the small plaza next to the mall and chili’s.
54. your old school if you remember playing a couple games in the mall arcade.

66. You’re old school if you remember when there weren’t any houses on the right side of southwest (across from clearview,etc.)
67. You know you are old school if you still have a personalized T-shirt from T-Shirts Plus.
68. You’re old school if you ever went to the K-Mart that is now HEB.
69. You’re really old school if you remember O’Malley’s in Southwest Plaza. Or had fried ice cream from there!
70. Friends, and Best of Friends.
71. You’re REALLY old school if you remember that Huey Lewis and the News played at Sugars. (where The Library is now)

73. You’re older than dirt if you remember that across from the Baskin Robbins and old K-mart on Sherwood Way, there was a club called, “The Strip”. (and either before or after that it was a strip joint and possibly a gay bar, anyone remember?) where “Head East” played!!!! It’s where the Walgreen’s is now.
74. How about the Mongolian BBQ place where La Esperanza Mexican Restaurant is now (on Ave. N)
75. And, speaking of Avenue N…I can’t believe no one mentioned Crystal’s….Happy hour, free food, awesome drinks, and fried cheese.
76. Really really long time ago….Rustlers restaurant on Southwest Blvd. where Reflections is now.
77. You are truly and oldie (but a goodie) if you saw Three Dog Night at the San Angelo coliseum.
78. You re old school if you ever saw George Strait at the San Angelo Rodeo (many, many times).
79. You are old school if you visited that place in the mall that had ice cream on a stick, dipped in chocolate, with crushed up peanuts on top!!!
80. TCBY was not that long ago…”Yogurt with a Twist” in the mall….that was a long time ago!!!
81. You are old school if you remember the Christmas tree decorations in the Village.
82. You are old school if you ever saw a river parade at Fiesta del Concho of listened to a Fiddler’s Contest.
83. You are old school if you remember Carmel Corn, Orange Julius, Connies, and Circus World. Oh and Jerry’s Perfect Pets!
84. You are old school if you shopped for Jordache jeans at Hemphill Wells–you could mail stuff down stairs and then eat at Furr’s (or was it Luby’s?) It was a cafeteria…
85. How about when Montgomery Wards was downtown & can remember going to the basement in there.
86. Or when Charcoal House was a white & red building that sat on the corner of Sherwood Way & Garfield and Mc Donald’s was in the building that the Ford house used to have their “used car” department right down the street from Charcoal House.
87. YOU ARE OLD SCHOOL IF YOU REMEMBER THE STATUE OF THE CAT THAT STOOD AT THE CORNER OF THE CACTUS HOTEL. (<——- SEE, NOW DON’T YOU FEEL YOUNGER BECAUSE YOU DON’T REMEMBER THAT? FYI – BECAUSETHERE NEVER WAS A STATUE OF A CAT. HEY, BUT YOU FELT YOUNGER FOR A SECOND THERE DIDN’T YA? YOU’RE WELCOME!)
88. You are old, old, school if you remember dancing/partying at the Boots and Saddle, Dixie Club, Webb’s Place or Cotton Club all on old Ballinger Highway or the Wagon Yard and Thirteenth Hour on Sherwood Way!
89. You are old, old, school if you remember eating pizza at the Red Rooster on Avenue N, burgers and fries at McEntires Drive-in on South Chadbourne, Charles’ Restaurant on North Chadbourne, Sam’s Chicken House, Rector’s Drive-in, Tony’s Drive-in, or Bill Jones Drive-in (THE place to hang out–now catfish place) all on Sherwood Way or eating steak at the Old Lamplighter Inn on the Arden Rd or steak at the original Lowake Inn (not same place as Lowake Steakhouse).
90. You are old, old school if you shopped downtown at Levine’s, Mode-O-Day, JC Penneys, Wards, and Sears for clothes, Leddy’s and Hatatorium for Western Wear, Concho Drug (where Fuentes is on corner) or frequented the variety stores–Woolworth, McClellan’s and Ben Franklins. They had great soda fountains!
91 You are old old school if you remember BETTY LEES SHOE STORE next door to the Concho Drug.

You are old school if you went to Washington school on Oakes for 7th grade, only) , designated smoking areas at Central High School.,McCellan’s sold candied apples, Sears had a candy counter.Captin Kidd’s on Arden Road,the Rebel inn,Friday nights at Sherwood Lanes & next door was Olive’s nursery which ended up as part of Bass- Jarmon Ford property.. who remembers the Palisades,west of Angelo on 67 and across the RR tracks

You are really old, old school San Angelo if you remember when the Standard Times was in the first block of North Chadbourne where Santa Claus landed his sleigh every Christmas on the roof and threw candies to all the children waiting below with their parents.
